Playoff Semi 2nd Leg - Top Two in ZFC Playoff Final - 30th April 2006

Team Sardar and Team Jessa will meet in the ZFC playoff final on 6th May 2006. They finished 1st and 2nd in the league and with good displays in the playoff semi-finals, deserve to be in the final.

Team Jessa ended Team Asaria’s dream of a comeback with two strikes in the second half finishing the game 3-2 after Team Asaria had taken a 2-1 lead and were pushing to level the game on aggregate.

Team Somji frustrated Team Sardar for long periods of their game, but couldn’t come up with the opening goal they so desired. Two second half goals effectively put Team Sardar through, although there was late drama as Team Somji pulled one back with 5 minutes left on the clock but the game finished 2-1.

Playoff Semi 1st Leg - Team Jessa Edge Towards Final - 23rd April 2006

Team Jessa came from a goal down to beat Team Asaria 4-2 in a thrilling encounter in the first leg of the playoff semi-final. Team Jessa are now one step closer to making the ZFC playoff final.

Team Somji held league champions Team Sardar to a draw in their first leg match. The 1-1 score line will give Team Somji much confidence going in to the second leg next week with everything to play for.

Match Day 16 - Sardar and Jessa march on - 9th April 2006

A champions display from Team Sardar saw them score three goals is as many minutes at the death to beat Team Somji 5-3 in a thrilling match. Abbas Hasham scored a hat-trick to take his tally to 29 goals in 16 games.

Team Jessa came out on top in their match against Team Asaria although Team Asaria did frustrate them with some deep defending. The game finished 5-2 and with the play-off’s coming up, Team Jessa must be feeling confident about making it to the final.

Match Day 15 - Team Sardar win the league! - 2nd April 2006

Team Sardar are the Zanzibar Football Club league champions for 2006 after a thrilling 5-4 victory over their biggest rivals Team Jessa. Team Sardar came out with all guns blazing and two goals a piece from Abbas Hasham and Hassan Syed put Team Sardar 4-0 to the good at half time. There was a late flurry of goals from Team Jessa, but it was too little too late.

Controversy marred the end of what was a good natured game when the ref’s score sheet indicated that the final score was 5-5. After confirming all the goal scorers, it seemed the ref had either made an honest mistake or was paid off by Team Jessa. The final score was actually 5-4 to Team Sardar.

In the other game of the day, Team Asaria edged Team Somji 3-2. Team Asaria took a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes to go and then made life difficult for themselves allowing Team Somji back in to the game. Team Somji had a couple of decent chances in the dying seconds to equalise, but some resolute defending ensured all three points for Team Asaria.

Match Day 14 - Qilo leads Team Jessa stroll - 26th March 2006

Team Jessa condemned Team Somji to finishing bottom of the table with a comfortable 7-2 victory. Hasnain Jessa netted twice as Team Jessa got off to a flying start, and Aqil Najafi scored a fine hat-trick to take his goal tally to 19 for the season.

League Champions elect Team Sardar beat Team Asaria 3-0 to stay 8 points clear at the top. An early goal from Abbas Hasham and 2 late strikes from Hassan Syed was enough to see off Team Asaria. With only 3 games to go, anything but a defeat against Team Jessa next week, means Team Sardar will deservedly win the league.

Match Day 13 - Normal service resumed - 12th March 2006

Normal service is resumed as the top 2 teams go marching on. Team Sardar kept their 8 point lead at the top with a 4-1 victory over Team Somji. 3 goals for Team Sardar in the last 10 minutes kept Team Sardar on track to win the league.

Team Jessa convincingly defeated Team Asaria 7-1 to record their first victory since the beginning of December 2005.

Match Day 12 - Sardar extend lead - 5th March 2006

Team Sardar edged Team Jessa 3-2 in the top of the table clash to extend their lead at the top of the table, both teams coming in to this one on the back of unexpected defeats last week. Team Jessa have now slumped to 4 defeats in a row and must be worried about their form with the play-offs just over a month away.

Honours were even between Team Asaria and Team Somji, both were feeling confident about this game after showing some good form in recent weeks. A 2-2 draw was probably a fair result as both teams played well and both teams had chances to win the game towards the end.

Match Day 11 - Somji victorious - 27th February 2006

Team Somji finally recorded their first victory of the season on Match Day 11. A second half hat-trick from Mehboob Alidina saw Team Somji defeat Team Jessa 5-3.

Team Asaria also caused an upset by edging top goal scorers Team Sardar 1-0. Team Asaria were up against it for most of the game and defended deep to grind out the victory and put an end to Abbas Hasham's 11 game goal streak.

Match Day 10 - Asaria tames Jessa - 19th February 2006

Team Asaria finally put the demons of the 10-0 beating by Team Jessa behind them by winning a fiercely competitive match against Team Jessa 4-1 to record their second win in a row.

Two thunderous goals from team captain Adam Asaria sent Team Asaria on their way before a late collision with Arish saw Adam taken off with what seemed to be a head injury. With 8 minutes to go, Adam Asaria and Arish both with their eyes on the ball clashed in the air, Adam took a knock to the head and was on the floor clearly in pain. The game was stopped for 5 minutes whilst Adam received treatment.

Team Sardar carried on with their quest to be crowned league champions with a convincing 6-3 victory over Team Somji. Team Somji’s new signing, Mohammed “Speedy” Hasham, had a good debut but couldn’t help them to their first victory of the season.

Match Day 9 - Sardar stuns Jessa with late goals - 29th January 2006

After an unexpected week off due to a scheduling conflict at the Scarborough Soccer Association the ZFC league continued with Match Day 9.

Team Sardar came from a goal behind to beat Team Jessa 3-1 in a well fought match. The victory means Team Sardar leap frog over Team Jessa in the league table and are now 2 points clear at the top.

At the other end of the table, the match between Team Asaria and Team Somji looked to be destined to finish goalless until two very late goals in quick succession from Haji Aarif “Phonzy” Fazal and Taha Jaffer gave Team Asaria all 3 points.

Match Day 8 - Team Sardar closes gap on Team Jessa - 15th January 2006

A spirited performance by Team Somji held league leaders Team Jessa to a 3-3 draw. It looked like it was going to be business as usual as Team Jessa took an early lead, but Team Somji fought back to get a well deserved draw. Both teams had chances to win the game towards the end. Calbe Ali Najarali missed a penalty with 8 minutes to go after Mohamed Imran Amirali had handled the ball in the area. Moments later, Mohamed Imran Amirali had a chance to seal the game when he skipped around two defenders but his shot hit the underside of the crossbar.

Team Sardar carried on their charge for the league title with a 7-0 victory over Team Asaria. Two goals a piece for top goalscorer Abbas Hasham and captain Shan Sardar helped them on their way. Team Sardar are only a point behind Team Jessa, which sets up an intriguing match between the top two next week.

Match Day 7 - Team Jessa Spank Team Asaria - 11th December 2005

An on-form Team Jessa spanked an unorganised Team Asaria 10–0 in a totally one sided affair. Team Jessa flew out of the blocks with 5 goals inside the first 10 minutes and then coasted through the rest of the game. Team Jessa’s goalkeeper Nadeem Kassam was virtually a spectator for the whole game and was only called in to action in the very last minute when he saved a penalty from Murtaza Kanji.

Team Somji looked like they were going to cause an upset as they took a 3-1 lead over Team Sardar. Team Sardar kept their composure and brought the score back to 3-3 with two quick goals just before half time. Three goals in the second half gave Team Sardar all three points with a 6-4 win. Team Sardar are still chasing Team Jessa and are only 3 points behind.

Match Day 6 - Team Jessa Cruise To Victory - 4th December 2005

A comprehensive 5-2 victory over Team Sardar sees Team Jessa move to the top of the table. Team Jessa are now 3 points clear of rivals Team Sardar. Team Sardar didn’t cause too many problems for Team Jessa in the first half, goals from Calbe Ali Najarali, Aqil Najafi and Mehboob Ajwani saw Team Jessa go in at half time three goals ahead.

Honours were even in the bottom of the table clash between Team Asaria and Team Somji as the game finished 1-1. Team Somji remain bottom of the league but pick up their first point of the season.

Match Day 4 - Team Asaria hit for six! - 20th November 2005

Team Asaria were hit for six on match day 4 by a rampant Team Jessa. Team Jessa had the upper hand right from the start when Aqil Najafi curled a tremendous right foot shot passed Mohamed “Ice” Alibhai to take his tally to 6 for the season.

ZFC Season Kicks Off in Style - 14th November 2005

After the first round of games in the ZFC season there is nothing to choose from between any of the four teams. There are three teams who have a joint lead separated only by goal difference with 2 wins out of 3 games. Team Somji are currently propping up the table, however they have given three spirited performances but are still looking for their first point.

All of the 6 games so far have been exciting with an average of 5.8 goals per game. Have the defenses weakened from last season or is there a move to more attacking Chelsea style football?

ZFC Draft - 9th October

The Zanzibar Football Club draft was held on Saturday, 8th October, 2005.

The first pick went to Team Somji who drafted in last seasons Golden Boot winner Azeem Amir. Team Asaria drafted Mohamed "Ice Box" Alibhai as their first pick. Salman Ganawi was picked in 3rd place and was the first draft for Team Sardar which gave Team Jessa the formidable duo of Asif Somji and Aqil Najafi... [+]
