Playoff Semi 2nd Leg - Top Two in ZFC Playoff Final
30th April 2006

Team Sardar and Team Jessa will meet in the ZFC playoff final on 6th May 2006. They finished 1st and 2nd in the league and with good displays in the playoff semi-finals, deserve to be in the final.

Team Jessa ended Team Asaria’s dream of a comeback with two strikes in the second half finishing the game 3-2 after Team Asaria had taken a 2-1 lead and were pushing to level the game on aggregate.

Team Somji frustrated Team Sardar for long periods of their game, but couldn’t come up with the opening goal they so desired. Two second half goals effectively put Team Sardar through, although there was late drama as Team Somji pulled one back with 5 minutes left on the clock but the game finished 2-1.

Team Asaria came flying out of the blocks needing to claw back a two goal deficit. A superlative half-volley from Hassanain Mamdani from just outside the area rattled in off the post in the 2nd minute stunning Team Jessa and giving Team Asaria hope.

Team Asaria kept the pressure on but some loose marking from a Team Jessa corner allowed Mazaher Rajani to volley in to draw the game level on 15 minutes.

Three minutes later Team Asaria won a free kick just outside the area. Hassanain Mamdani drilled the free kick low and somehow the ball ricocheted through the vast number of bodies in the area and found its way into the bottom corner.

As Team Asaria were pushing higher up the pitch, Team Jessa found gaps in the Team Asaria defence and a great save from Mohamed "Ice" Alibhai from Aqil Najafi kept Team Asaria in the tie.

Sajjad Najarali levelled the score with a nicely taken shot on 37 minutes to put Team Jessa in the driving seat.

In the last minute a nice counter attack by Team Jessa was finished off by Arish Abdulrasul who smashed the ball in from an acute angle making the final score 3-2.

It was a well contested match, but with the playoff final at stake the game got a little heated and yellow cards were shown to Adam Asaria, Hasnain Jessa, Sajjad Najarali and Hassanain Mamdani.

Team Jessa’s top goalscorer, Aqil Najafi, showed up late and later explained he was at the screening of his own movie premier, "Aqil And The Bee", which is now in theatres.

In the other semi final, the first half was a tight affair with out too many incidents. The game came alive in the second half when team captain Shan Sardar side stepped the Team Somji defence and blasted the ball in the back of the net.

Team Somji kept the pressure on looking for the equaliser to take the game to penalties, but a nice shot in to the top corner from Hassan Syed in the 36th minute made in 2-0 and looked to have killed the tie.

With 5 minutes to go, Team Somji found a goal from an unlikely source, a free kick taken from deep inside their own half was headed home by Hasnain Kara for his first goal of the season and what a time to get it.

Team Somji went in to all out attack mode for the last 5 minutes and had a couple of half-chances, but league champions, Team Sardar, held on to claim their place in the ZFC playoff final.
